MADISON, WIS. — The Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Agricultural & Life Sciences recently announced the latest additions to the Wisconsin Meat Industry Hall of Fame, who will be inducted on April 10.
The first inductee will be Dan Sutherland of Johnsonville, who worked as the head of sow procurement in 1982 when he joined the company. Other roles Sutherland held over the years at Johnsonville include plant management, meat and value-added sales, meat purchasing, rendering and developing foreign markets.
The Hall of Fame also will induct Fritz Usinger, president of Milwaukee-based Fred Usinger’s Inc. Usinger is the fourth generation to run this meat processing operation, which has been in business for more than 140 years.
MEAT+POULTRY profiled Usinger and his family business in 2018.
The Wisconsin Meat Industry Hall of Fame started in 1993 and recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the meat industry in Wisconsin. The Hall of Fame program is coordinated with the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors.
