MADISON, WIS. — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers unveiled the state’s plans to invest over $80 million in support of local producers and processors as part of his 2025-2027 Executive Budget.

Wisconsin has a $116 billion agricultural industry. Evers said the budget from the last six years helped to keep pace with the growing demands to support research, infrastructure or the workforce of the agricultural community.

“Our next state budget will continue to build upon our efforts to invest our farmers, producers and agricultural industries,” he said.

Included among the budgeted initiatives are investments that support local meat production and processing. For example:

  • $1.6 million in additional funding to support the Meat Processor Grant Program, which works to strengthen Wisconsin’s meat supply chain by supporting in-state meat processors.
  • Providing ongoing funding for the state’s Meat Talent Development Program, established in 2022 to help attract, recruit and train workers for the meat processing industry and provide support to Wisconsin students in meat processing training programs.
  • $1 million to create a new Transition to Grass program that will support farmers who are implementing livestock grass-based managed grazing systems and farmers and agribusinesses in the grass-fed livestock business to reduce runoff and protect waters.
  • $500,000 to support farmers in planning and operating biodigesters on their facilities to provide a new revenue stream and support farmers in their efforts to reduce on-the-farm emissions.
