BERRYVILLE, ARK. — Local officials confirmed a fire at the Tyson Foods poultry processing plant in Berryville, Ark., in which 24 firefighters and one employee were treated for chemical burns before being released from the hospital.
The fire started around 7 p.m. on Jan. 15 and was contained by 10 p.m.
A report by KY3 said firefighters experienced chemical burns from Caustic Soda Beads 99%, used for various purposes throughout poultry processing and cleaning at the facility.
The company sent a hazmat remediation team to the site and provided an update on the incident.
“We appreciate the quick response from emergency personnel following a fire at our Berryville facility on Wednesday evening,” a Tyson Foods spokesperson said. “The fire was extinguished, and we have resumed operations. The safety of our team members and the community is our top priority, and we are working closely with authorities to determine the cause of the incident.”
