WASHINGTON — The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert on Jan. 8 for frozen products labeled as Chicken Curry Empanadas that may actually feature Apple Cinnamon Empanadas. The Apple Cinnamon Empanadas contain milk, a known allergen that was not listed on the product label.
The product is no longer available for purchase, so a recall was not requested.
The following product, produced on Nov. 14, 2024, and packaged on Nov. 20-21, 2024, is subject to the health alert:
- 9.6-oz cardboard packages labeled as “bettergoods TRADITIONALLY CRAFTED Chicken Curry Empanadas” with “BEST BY: 05/21/26” or “BEST BY: 05/22/26” and “EST. P33967” on the side of the box.
The product bears the establishment number “P33967” on the side of the box. They were shipped to Walmart locations nationwide.
FSIS was notified of the problem by the producing establishment. The company said its distributor received four consumer complaints about the packages containing apple cinnamon empanadas instead of chicken curry empanadas.
FSIS said there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the empanadas.
