BISMARK, ND. — The North Dakota Highway Patrol recently confirmed a semitruck hauling a trailer of 41,000 lbs of pork meat caught fire near Oxbow, ND, on Interstate 29. The truck and trailer became fully engulfed in flames causing the side of the trailer split open.

No one was injured in the fire, according to police reports.

“Clean up was extensive due to greasy pork fat burning in the fire and draining onto the road,” the highway patrol said in a Facebook post.

The situation began around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 4. Authorities did not reopen the northbound lanes until Jan. 5., at noon.

The incident remains under investigation.

Other agencies helping with the cleanup of the incident include the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Southern Valley Fire and Rescue, Kindred Fire and Rescue and the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
