AUSTIN, MINN. – Hormel Foods recently introduced Hormel mini BBQ sandwiches to deli departments and convenience stores nationwide. These palm-sized, convenient sandwiches can be eaten cold or hot — and are perfect for an on-the-go snack, the company said. The mini-sandwiches are offered in the BBQ variety only at present, with new flavors planned to be launched in September.

Product arrives at the deli in a frozen kit but sells fresh in-store. The easy-to-assemble kit provides deli workers with product and supplies (including insert labels with UPC) to make 12 units of the four-pack sandwiches. Each mini BBQ sandwich weighs approximately 2.75 ounces.

“We developed the kit as a solution to in-store labor issues,” Mike Lammers, product manager, Deli Meal Innovations, Hormel Foods, told MEATPOULTRY.com. “We started with mini or slider sandwiches because they are one of the fastest-growing restaurant trends today. These mini sandwiches deliver excellent flavor and value for the time-pressed deli consumer.”

Hormel mini BBQ sandwiches can be found in the sandwich or “grab-and-go” sections of the deli or C-Store. The suggested retail price of one, four-pack of Hormel mini BBQ sandwiches is $4.99/unit. Marketing support includes public relations and in-store promotions.

“Hormel Foods is committed to providing product innovations that are convenient for both retailers and consumers” Mr. Lammers said. “The complete, easy-to-assemble kit, providing deli workers with product and supplies, is currently unique to the marketplace.”
