GEISMAR, LA — Construction has started in Geismar, La., on the new plant being built by Dynamic Fuels, a joint venture of Tyson Foods and Syntroleum Corporation, which will convert animal fats and greases provided by Tyson into ultra-clean renewable diesel and jet fuel. Construction offices have been built and concrete foundations are being poured for the new plant. The project is scheduled for an early 2010 startup.

"We’re pleased with the progress made on this important renewable fuels project," said Jeff Webster, group vice president of Tyson's Renewable Products Division. "Tyson is committed to revolutionizing the conversion of raw materials and by-products into high-margin initiatives, and the Dynamic Fuels venture is a cornerstone of this corporate strategy."

The estimated cost for the facility is $138 million, and is funded by cash investments from Tyson and Syntroleum, in addition to bond proceeds. To date, Tyson and Syntroleum have invested $28 million ($14 million each). The bond proceeds are approximately $100 million.

Recruitment and hiring of employees is expected to begin in the middle of this year. Project updates will be posted on the Dynamic Fuels Web site www.dynamicfuelsllc.com.
