MIAMI, Fla. – Lime Fresh Mexican Grill partnered with Meyer Natural Angus, a Meyer Natural Foods Company, to become the first restaurant in Florida to earn the Certified Humane Raised and Handled label for its beef. The six-unit restaurant chain pursued the Certified Humane certification to better meet the lifestyles of its customers.

“Providing the best meal possible for our customers is more than a matter of taste, it’s about serving the ingredients that they can feel good about eating,” said John Kunkel, founder and chief executive officer of Lime. “The Certified Humane achievement reiterates Lime’s commitment to serving the freshest ingredients that are also good for the body.”

Lime collaborated and Meyer Natural Angus collaborated to meet Humane Farm Animal Care’s Certified Humane requirements for a restaurant, which states a restaurant must source a product from a supplier that has also earned the Certified Humane label, and through an annual audit, the restaurant can verify all beef served at Lime’s restaurants can be identified throughout the handling, cooking and serving process.

Humane Farm Animal Care is the nation’s leading non-profit certification organization for improving the lives of farm animals used in food production, states a news release. Meyer Natural Angus, which is Lime’s exclusive beef supplier, earned the Certified Humane designation in 2003.

“When Lime first learned about the Certified Humane program and what it means for the animals, they became instant believers,” said John Bormann, eastern regional vice president of foodservice sales, Meyer Natural Angus. “They understood that the program was the right way to show their commitment to treating animals humanely.”
