DENVER — Biotechnology company Energis Solutions created an onsite machine that significantly reduces eminent foodborne pathogens in meat products. The Voltai technology was validated by a third party and was submitted to the Food and Drug Administration for approval.

Voltai targets Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria and other pathogens. Based off third-party studies, Voltai offers a double reduction of STEC and Salmonella compared to legacy Peracetic and Lactic acid treatments.

“The Voltai machine produces a patented unique, highly energized fluid that carriers the same EPA toxicity rating as tap water, Category IV,” said Darin Jensen, vice president of food safety, quality and regulatory at Energis. “The technology can be used as a carcass spray or poultry dip, that is far safer than acid-based alternatives that are often used in the industry today.”

Energis President Kevin Lamar added, “Voltai offers many competitive advantages, the on-demand machine eliminates freight and warehousing costs for the customer while achieving better results making safer products for the company and consumer. We are working with the industry to understand the substantial reduction of needing to use hot water creating a more sustainable environment.”

Energis said Voltai is kosher and organic compliant. The company is currently testing shelf-life extension characteristics for protein products.
