WASHINGTON – Tyson Fresh Meats Inc.’s Amarillo, Texas, beef processing plant announced on Nov. 16, the recall of 93,687 lbs of raw ground beef suspected of being contaminated with foreign material, which was reported to be “reflective, mirror-like material,” said the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The chub-packaged products were produced on Nov. 2, 2022 and are labeled with establishment number EST. 245E on the seam of the packaging. The items were shipped to some of the company’s retail customers in Texas and include the following items:

  • 10-lb chubs containing “HILL COUNTRY FARE GROUND BEEF 73% LEAN/ 27% FAT with BEST BEFORE OR FREEZE BY: NOV 25, 2022.”
  • 5-lb chubs containing “HILL COUNTRY FARE GROUND BEEF 73% LEAN/ 27% FAT with BEST BEFORE OR FREEZE BY: NOV 25, 2022.”
  • 5-lb chubs containing “H-E-B GROUND CHUCK GROUND BEEF 80% LEAN/ 20% FAT.”

Consumer complaints alerted the company to the issue after the products were purchased from grocery stores. No reports of injury or adverse reactions have been received by consumers related to consumption of the products.
