PREVENTING
RECALLS
The right equipment and supplier
partners can help processors avoid
costly recalls.
Keeping food safe is a constant concern for
all meat and poultry processors. Foodborne
pathogens and foreign material contamination
can threaten the integrity and safety of the
products produced in any food processing
facility. When products are compromised with
any contamination - pathogenic or foreign
material - product recalls can result. Even
the smallest recall can mean an interruption
in production flow, while large recalls can
result in substantial financial losses, negative
reputational impact, and in the worst cases,
lives lost.
Processors have to do all they can to
protect their products and their end
consumers from the damages resulting
from recalls. However, the responsibility
of keeping food safe shouldn't fall on the
shoulders of just one segment of the food
chain - all segments can and should be
involved in the process.
" The more stakeholders we have working
together from design equipment, systems
and processes, the better we can collectively
ensure the industry produces safe and
wholesome products for the consuming
public, " says Roya Galindo, director of
regulatory services for the North American
Meat Institute (NAMI).
