SPRINGDALE, ARK. — As the official sponsor of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, Hillshire Farm SNACKED!, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods Inc., debuted the “pay with words” vending machine at this year’s event, held in National Harbor, Md. Correctly spelled words earn users the brand’s snack pack, which includes a meat, cheese and a sweet treat.

The vending machine selects words of varying difficulty for users to spell. They will listen as the machine pronounces a word and will then spell the word out using the touch screen keypad. If the spellers are correct, the machine accepts the answer as currency and releases a snack pack.

Hillshire Farm SNACKED! unveiled the “pay with words” vending machine on May 25 in New York, NY, and it will move to Maryland for the Scripps National Spelling Bell finals, which will take place from May 30-31.

“It takes a lot of brain power to win a National Spelling Bee, and Hillshire Farm SNACKED! offers a versatile, on the-the-go snack to help fuel kids through challenges and achieve their dreams — both big and small,” said Amy Margolin, brand manager of Hillshire Farm SNACKED! “As an official sponsor of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, we’re thrilled to support the contestants throughout the competition. We hope people enjoy the ‘pay with words’ vending machine and celebrate their inner spelling champion with the perfect snack.”
