SELBYVILLE, DEL. – After declining representation by one union at the end of 2021, workers at the Mountaire Farms in Selbyville, Del., voted 140-29, to reject representation by Teamsters Union Local 355 at the facility.

The company said the National Labor Relations Board oversaw the election. The results from the vote will become official once the NLRB  certifies the results.

“For the first time since 1977, our Selbyville plant is union free and it was our hourly employees who made that happen,” said Phillip Plylar, president of Mountaire Farms. “We could not be prouder of our team there who put our employees first every day.”

In December 2021, Mountaire workers voted not to be represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 27 voted by a large majority.

Mountaire Farms said its Selbyville location was the only processing plant owned by the company with union representation, which have been part of this plant since it was purchased.
