MIAMI — Restaurant Brands International Inc. is partnering with Impossible Foods to test plant-based Impossible Nuggets on the Burger King menu. Burger King will be the first global quick-service restaurant brand to test the nuggets.

The poultry alternative, which Impossible Foods debuted in September, boasts a springy white meat texture and a savory chicken flavor, according to the company. Made with soy protein and sunflower oil, the nuggets are coated in a crispy wheat flour breadcrumb coating and seasoned with onion, garlic, paprika and black pepper. Each four-piece serving contains 200 calories, 10 grams of fat, 10 grams of protein and 320 mg of sodium. The nuggets contain 40% less saturated fat and 25% less sodium than traditional chicken nuggets, the company said.

Impossible Nuggets will be available at Burger King locations in Des Moines, Iowa; Boston, and Miami beginning Oct. 11. The nuggets will come in an eight-piece order with a choice of dipping sauce.

“This isn’t the first time we’ve teamed up with Impossible to make waves in the industry,” said Ellie Doty, chief marketing officer for Burger King North America. “In 2019, we became the first quick-service restaurant to serve the award-winning, plant-based Impossible patty and offer the iconic Impossible Whopper. So, it’s only fitting we’re the first global QSR to test the Impossible Nuggets. We’re excited to hear what our guests in the test markets think of this latest innovation.”

Additionally, Burger King is rolling out new Ghost Pepper Chicken Nuggets nationwide. Made with white meat chicken and fiery ghost pepper flavor, the nuggets are available for a limited time.
