VANCOUVER — Nabati Foods Global Inc. filed patents for Nabati Plant Eggz, its plant-based egg product, in the United States, Canada and Australia and has plans to file in Europe and China.

Formulated without gluten or soy, Plant Eggz is the first Canadian-made plant-based egg substitute, according to the company. Each serving has 90 calories, 6 grams of protein, 2 grams of fiber and no cholesterol. It also is high in riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid and vitamins A, E and B12. The product is expected to be available later this year. It will be sold in liquid form in 355-ml bottles.

“Our product uses lupin and pea protein to provide the right consistency, taste and texture,” said Ahmad Yehya, chief executive officer of Nabati. “It was important to us to create a formulation that was free of soy and gluten, which many people avoid in their diets.”
