SPRINGDALE, ARK. – A fire that started on Friday morning, March 5, at Tyson Foods Inc.'s pork plant in Logansport, Ind., was extinguished and no injuries were reported.

“We’ve temporarily suspended operations at our Logansport pork plant [with a capacity of approximately 15,000 hogs per day] due to a fire this morning,” Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson told MEATPOULTRY.com. “We’re still investigating the cause, but we can tell you the fire involved part of the roof over the slaughter area. The plant was immediately evacuated and we’re thankful no one was hurt. The local fire department was called in and the fire was extinguished.

“We’re now assessing the damage so we can determine what repairs are needed and when we can resume production,” he concluded.
