WASHINGTON — Led by First Lady Michelle Obama, the White House has launched a new campaign aimed at addressing what it characterizes as an epidemic of childhood obesity, the American Meat Institute said.

A task force has been established as part of the program. It will be made up of the Secretaries of Interior, Agriculture, Health and Human Services and Education; the Director of the office of Management and Budget; the Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff to the First Lady: the Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, and the heads of other executive departments, agencies or offices.


During the next 90 days, the task force will develop recommendations to meet the following program objectives:

* Ensuring access to healthy, affordable food

* Increasing physical activity in schools and communities

* Providing healthier food in schools

* Empowering parents with information and tools to make good choices for themselves and their families
