The organic certification lends credibility and an assurance of quality and food safety, according to the Hartman Group, Bellevue, Wash. The 2019 IRI Fresh Survey showed that 20% of consumers said that organic is important when fresh food shopping. Within fresh meat and poultry, organic growth is strongest in beef and turkey. Organic has grown across all regions before and during the pandemic time period. Nearly 60% of all organic meat and poultry sales are in the Northeast, California and mid-South.
