WASHINGTON – North Las Vegas, Nev.-based Ideal Foods launched a recall of approximately 3,302 lbs of meat and poultry flatbread pizza products that were produced, packed and distributed without the benefit of federal inspection, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the US Department of Agriculture said.

The products made with meat and poultry items were produced on various dates from October 2019 to April 2020, FSIS said. The affected products include:

  • 13.5-oz plastic-wrapped cardboard trays containing “culinevo Artisan Style Flatbread Pizza CARNE ASADA”.
  • 13-oz plastic-wrapped cardboard trays containing “culinevo Artisan Style Flatbread Pizza CHICKEN SPINACH ARTICHOKE”.
  • 16.5-oz plastic-wrapped cardboard trays containing “culinevo Artisan Style Flatbread Pizza SIZZLIN JALAPEÑO”.
  • 14.5-oz plastic-wrapped cardboard trays containing “culinevo Artisan Style Flatbread Pizza MEAT LOVERS”.

The flatbread pizza products subject to the recall bear establishment number “EST. 45351A” or “P-45351A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. FSIS said the items were shipped to a distributor and retail locations in California.

Routine FSIS surveillance activities uncovered the problem. Inspectors determined that Ideal Foods produced the products without the benefit of inspection. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products, the agency said.

A recall was not announced for approximately 70 lbs of raw beef ravioli products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. FSIS issued a public health alert instead because the product, made by Philadelphia-based P&S Ravioli Company, is no longer available for purchase.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products, FSIS said. FSIS urged consumers who have purchased the ravioli to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

Ravioli

The frozen, raw ground beef ravioli items were produced on April 30, 2020, and include 13-oz boxes containing “P&S RAVOLI COMPANY 12 JUMBO MEAT RAVIOLI” with a use-by date of 11/30/2020 and lot code 20121.

The products bear establishment number “EST. 2736” inside the USDA mark of inspection. P&S shipped the ravioli to a limited number of retail locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, FSIS said.

P&S Ravioli was notified by their third-party laboratory that a sample tested positive for E. coli O157:H7, but the products associated with the sample had already been shipped into commerce. The company notified FSIS of the sampling results and subsequently controlled all product remaining for sale.
