IRVINE, Calif. — After putting its own twist on french fries with the launch of Nacho Fries in 2018, Taco Bell is taking on another fast-food staple: chicken strips.

Marking the chain’s first foray into fried chicken strips, new Crispy Tortilla Chicken features all-white meat chicken marinated in jalapeño buttermilk flavored marinade and rolled in a crunch tortilla chip coating. The strips are served with a new creamy chili pepper sauce for dipping, or customers may order the chicken in a soft taco with toppings, including lettuce, cheese and diced tomatoes.

Taco Bell’s Test Kitchen team created almost 100 iterations of the crispy chicken before landing on the final recipe, according to Taco Bell parent company Yum! Brands Inc.

Crispy Tortilla Chicken will be test marketed in Houston and Dayton, Ohio, beginning Nov. 21 with a national rollout slated for 2020. The chicken will be available at $1.99 for a taco, $2.99 for two pieces, $3.99 for three pieces and in $5 and $7 boxes.
