MOUNT LAKES, N.J. — Pinnacle Foods plans to close its meat canning facility in Tacoma, Wash., and transfer production to its facility in Fort Madison, Iowa. To enable the transition, the company will add 17,000 square feet to the Fort Madison plant and invest $20 million. The move is contingent on final approval of applicable state and local incentives in Iowa, according to the company.

The move will consolidate the manufacturing of Pinnacle’s Nalley’s brand chili and Brook’s Beans in Fort Madison. The Iowa plant currently manufactures Pinnacle’s Armour brand of canned meats.

“The difficult decision to close the Tacoma facility was made only after a thorough analysis of all options,” said Mark Schiller, president of the Pinnacle Foods’ Duncan Hines Grocery Division. “We are thankful to the Tacoma community and for the services of our Tacoma employees and we are committed to treating them with fairness and respect as we transition these facilities over the next few quarters.”
