FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Carl’s Jr. announced in January that it would jump into the meat alternative space with its Beyond Famous Star Burger.

Now the quick-service restaurant wants to give customers a chance to try it for free. If anyone shows up to a participating restaurant on Aug. 15 and says “Beyond Upgrade” with a purchase of a large drink, Carl’s Jr. will give away a free Beyond Famous Star while supplies last.

Since its launch, Carl’s Jr. has sold more than 4.4 million Beyond Famous Stars, the most successful burger launch in the past two years, according to the company.

“We know there are many options for plant-based offerings today, and at Carl’s Jr. we are putting our money where our mouth is to let fans taste ours for themselves — because we believe our Beyond Famous Star burger truly is the best plant-based meat option on the market. We evaluated many options when looking at this space and have been thrilled about our decision to work with Beyond Meat as they are the market leaders in the category,” said Patty Trevino, senior vice president of marketing, Carl’s Jr.

The Beyond Famous Star features the Beyond Burger patty topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, sliced onions, dill pickles, special sauce and mayonnaise on a seeded bun. The Beyond Burger patty is GMO, gluten and soy free, and has lower saturated fat than regular beef with 20 g of protein.

Beyond Meat makes plant protein alternatives to meatballs, chicken strips and tenders, beef crumbles and burger patties. The products are made with soy or pea protein, and are free of gluten, dairy, trans fats, cholesterols and GMO ingredients.
