WASHINGTON– The US Dept. of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recently announced two recalls. Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Kent Quality Foods Inc. recalled approximately 48,681 lbs. of ready-to-eat polish sausage with beef. The product is suspected of being contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically pieces of flexible pink rubber.

The problem was discovered when the firm received two complaints of extraneous materials from retailers on July 17 and 18, 2019. The products were packaged on June 17 and 20.

The following products are subject to recall:

  • 36-oz. packages containing three 12 oz. individually wrapped pieces of “TETON WATERS RANCH COOKED UNCURED POLISH SAUSAGE MADE WITH BEEF” with a Use/Freeze By SEP 16 2019 or Use/Freeze By SEP 19 2019.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 5694” on the packaging. The items were shipped to California and Utah retail locations.

A second recall, from Norwood, Massachusetts-based Home Market Foods Inc., involved approximately 53,217 lbs. of frozen ready-to-eat beef and pork meatball products. This action was taken due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The products contain known allergens of milk and wheat that are not declared on the product label.

The issue was discovered when the firm received a consumer complaint reporting that the product was incorrectly labeled.

The frozen meatball items are labeled as “Homestyle Meatballs All Natural” products but may contain “Cranberry Stuffed Meatballs” products. The items were produced on April 2, 2019.

The following products are subject to recall:

  • 48-oz. plastic bag packages of “COOKED PERFECT BRAND HOMESTYLE MEATBALLS All Natural” and Best If Used By 07/02/20.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 2727” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to restaurants in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
