MCLEAN, Va. – Students studying meat sciences at universities in North America can apply for scholarships from the Food Processing Suppliers Association’s (FPSA) Meat Industry Suppliers Alliance Foundation (MISAF). The 2019 scholarship application period is open until May 10, 2019.

“We are excited to open up the scholarship application period and look forward to receiving submissions from this year’s batch of highly qualified students,” said Bob Grote, chairman of the MISA Foundation and CEO of Grote Co. “This Scholarship Fund was formed 30 years ago to support and encourage promising students interested in furthering their education and ultimately pursuing a career within the industry. During this time, the MISA Scholarship Program has attracted the best and brightest meat science students in North America and our applicant class in 2018 certainly fit that bill with winners representing some of the most prestigious meat science programs in the country.”

The 2018 scholarship winners included students from Colorado State Univ., Oklahoma Univ., Texas A&M Univ., two from Texas Tech Univ., Univ. of Florida and Univ. of Kentucky.

“These winners have a promising future in the industry and have set a very high bar for this year’s applicants,” Grote said.

“More than ever, members of the Meat Industry Suppliers Alliance remain committed to supporting and furthering advanced studies within the meat science field,” said FPSA President and CEO David Seckman. “MISA will continue to fund the scholarship program via its programs and activities with the goal of giving back to the meat industry and encouraging careers to the next generation of qualified meat science professionals.”

MISA is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors who take an active role in the review and selection of scholarship winners. For more information on MISA, contact David Seckman at (703) 663-1200 or
