CHICAGO – McDonald’s Corp. looks to be betting big on bacon with three changes to its classic menu items for a limited time.

First, the Big Mac Bacon will feature all the regular ingredients of a Big Mac but topped with three pieces of thick-cut applewood smoked bacon. Three pieces of bacon can also be added to any Quarter Pounder burger.

“People love bacon, and they love our iconic Big Mac, fresh beef Quarter Pounder burgers and world-famous fries, so we had to see what would happen if we combined all that tastiness,” said Chef Michael Haracz, McDonald’s manager of culinary innovation.

Lastly, Cheesy Bacon Fries will feature smoked bacon bits and topped with a cheddar cheese sauce.

Participating US restaurants will have the bacon items starting Jan. 30. This is the first major menu offering of 2019 for the quick-service restaurant chain.

McDonald’s already has Bacon Smokehouse burgers and chicken sandwiches and a Bacon McDouble as part of its regular menu.

McDonald’s has been working on changing elements of its products throughout 2018. The company began rolling out its change from frozen beef to fresh beef in March 2018. Buttermilk Crispy Tenders saw a surge in popularity at the beginning of 2018.
