WASHINGTON – As part of an ongoing investigation by the Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) and public health officials into a Salmonella Newport outbreak now traced back to ground beef produced between July 26, 2018 and Sept. 7, 2018, an additional 5.15 million lbs. of raw ground beef is being recalled by JBS Tolleson Inc., a subsidiary of Greeley, Colorado-based JBS USA. The total amount of the recall is now approximately 12.09 million lbs.

Product produced at the Tolleson, Arizona plant was initially recalled on Oct. 4, 2018, according to the US Dept. of Agriculture, and as the investigation continues into what is now 246 confirmed cases in 26 states, “additional product from other companies may also be recalled.”

 An additional 16 patients have provided receipts or shopper card numbers for the product traceback investigations being conducted by officials at FSIS, the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and public health officials. Specific traceback for three case-patients have identified the JBS Tolleson Inc., ground beef products that were not part of the Oct. 4, 2018 recall.
