SAN DIEGO – Although the 4,500 passengers who paid $5,200 to vacation on the ocean liner Carnival Splendor were promised prime rib and filet mignon, among other menu delicacies, they instead were fed Spam on Wednesday, according toThe Telegraph.

This change in menu was due to a fire in the engine room, which led to a loss of power on the liner leaving the ship dead in the water 50 miles off the coast of California for three days. With no power, the ship was forced to serve emergency rations to its hungry passengers.

Tugboats are towing the disabled ship to San Diego, and the liner is expected to reach land Nov. 11.
