KANSAS CITY, Mo. – With Hurricane Florence making landfall on Thursday night and into Friday morning, meat processors with operations in the Carolinas and Virginia continue to take all the precautions for their business.
Tyson Foods announced on Thursday that it changed production schedules for three facilities in North Carolina and one in Virginia. All four facilities will not operate Friday or Saturday due to the storm.
Tyson said that the prepared foods plants in Sanford and Tarboro, North Carolina, will shut down along with a poultry complex in Monroe. In Virginia, the poultry complex in Temperanceville will cease operation as well for both days
“We’ll be working to meet the needs of our customers, and in some cases, this includes shifting production to plants outside the affected region,” Tyson stated.
The company also added that poultry operations will not run on Saturday in Glen Allen, Virginia, New Holland, Pennsylvania, and Wilkesboro, North Carolina.
Finally, a prepared foods plant in Columbia, South Carolina, will shut down on Saturday.
Tyson stated that its disaster relief team, Meals that Matter, is ready and prepared to help storm victims, volunteers and first responders with meals in the aftermath of the storm.
