OOSTZAAN, The Netherlands/DANBURY, Conn .— An agreement between Meyn Food Processing Technology B.V. and Praxair Inc. has been signed to develop and market a new controlled-atmosphere stunning system for the poultry processing industry in Europe, Latin America and Asia. Praxair’s carbon dioxide (CO2) based CAS technology may be used in combination with the new Meyn drawer system, as well as with Meyn’s container systems.

Combining these technologies eliminates the processing and transporting of active birds. It also reduces handling stress and damage to the birds, both companies said. The Meyn/Praxair partnership results in a comprehensive solution for poultry processing. Other benefits that may be realized with the combined technologies include enhanced worker conditions and improved animal welfare, as well as economic gains due to optimized product quality and yield.
