Some clever packaging by Springfield, Vermont-based Black River Meats has been making the rounds on the internet the last few weeks.

The meat distributor added some common-sense instructions to its packaging. It reads as follows:

"If you really don’t know how to cook bacon, please contact our elected officials and complain about our education system. Every American should know how to cook bacon... seriously.”

Sean Buchanan, the vice president of sales and marketing for sustainable & specialty food programs at Reinhart Foodservice, the owner of Black River Meats, found that it was a great way to get customers to giggle at their packaging.

“To be honest, we just felt like the world was in need of a good laugh,” Buchanan said in an email. “We read a lot of labels out there when shopping the meat aisle and we thought that for the handful that went the extra mile, they deserved something special. We're grateful for all the positive responses on social media, customers who’ve called, emailed, shared, and sent carrier pigeon about their appreciation for it.”

The post gained notoriety online after Meteorologist Joe Crain of WICS Illinois shared the image on Aug. 9 garnering hundreds of thousands of shares.

However, the local teacher’s union was not as humored by the message. It responded with the following Facebook post.
