WASHINGTON – A public health alert issued Oct. 30 for an undetermined amount of various meat and poultry products produced without the benefit of federal inspection by N.Y. Gourmet Salads Inc., Brooklyn, NY, has been expanded by the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The alert was initiated based on evidence collected during an ongoing investigation being conducted by FSIS involving this establishment. Based on evidence, the business has been producing products without federal inspection and distributing them into commerce, FSIS relays. Federal inspection services at NY Gourmet Salads Inc. were suspended in Nov. 2009. This establishment previously conducted a recall of products produced without the benefit of federal inspection on March 11, 2010.

Additional products subject to this expanded alert include, but are not limited to:

  • 4.5-lb. and 5-lb. containers of "Lemon Grilled Chicken"
  • 5-lb. containers of "Grilled Chicken"
  • 4.5-lb. and 5-lb. containers of "Breaded Chicken"
  • 6-lb. containers of "Stuffed Cabbage"
  • 5-lb. containers of "Grilled Chicken, Plain"
  • 5-lb. containers of "Teriyaki Grilled Chicken"
  • 5-lb. containers of "Chopped Chicken Liver"

The implicated products were produced between April 20, 2010, and Oct. 29, 2010, and were distributed to retail establishments in New York.

Products identified in the Oct. 30 alert included:

  • 5-lb. tubs of "Chicken Salad" (This product was observed in commerce bearing the NY Gourmet Salads Inc. label.)
  • 5-lb. trays of "Meatballs & Sauce"
  • 5-lb. trays of "Meatballs"
  • 5-lb. trays of "Swedish Meatballs"
  • 5-lb. trays of "Sausage & Pepper"

The implicated products were produced between March 11, 2010, and Oct. 29, 2010, and were distributed to retail establishments in New York.

No reports of illnesses as result of consumption of these products has been reported.
