SPRINGDALE, Ark. – A spokesman with Tyson Foods Inc. confirmed that the company’s poultry processing plant in Temperanceville, Virginia, is not operating May 21, as scheduled. According to reports, line workers at the chicken slaughtering and processing facility were notified they didn’t need to report for their regular shifts for the day as mechanical issues are being addressed.

“The Temperanceville, Virginia, poultry plant will be down for maintenance on Monday,” Worth Sparkman, Tyson spokesman wrote in an email. “We plan to resume normal operations on Tuesday,” he wrote.

The 120,000-sq.-ft. plant employs approximately 1,175 workers.
