KFC Canada Waffle Double Down

TORONTO – KFC Canada just can’t keep a good ‘Double Down’ down for long.

The unit of Yum! Brands Inc. plans to return the iconic bun-less chicken sandwich to menus on March 26, but a waffle drizzled in a maple aioli sauce replaces the two pieces of bacon and Pepper Jack cheese sandwiched between two pieces of seasoned Original Recipe boneless chicken filets.

The Double Down has delivered strong sales for KFC Canada every time the company offers the item. It was KFC’s best-selling new menu item after it debuted in 2010 when the brand sold more than 350,000 Double Downs in the first 10 days after the product launched. The Waffle Double Down joins the Zinger Double Down as a variation on the recipe. KFC Canada said the addition of waffles to the recipe is a first for the company.

“The Double Down is our most talked about and demanded menu item in Canada, so we wanted to do something special exclusively for Canadian fans,” Samantha Redman, chief marketing officer, KFC Canada, said in a statement. “We know fans have been craving chicken and waffles on our menu, and we’re happy to provide this unique take on the trendy food pairing. The maple aioli sauce is a sweet nod to KFC’s Canadian fans.”
