LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County supervisors approved an ordinance on Oct. 12 that would require food trucks to follow the same food-safety regulations restaurants follow by posting letter-grade ratings from public health officials.

Taking effect in 30 days, the new regulations would force mobile food facility owners to undergo semi-annual inspections, meet annual certification requirements and provide the Department of Public Heath with their route information to facilitate surprise inspections.

Approximately 6,000 food trucks in Los Angeles County will be affected by the ordinance – ranging from full-service catering trucks to hot-dog carts. Any mobile food facilities not complying with the new food-safety rules will be shut down.
