McDonald's Canada rolled out a street-style teaser ads for the 50th anniversary kick off the Big Mac.

TORONTO – McDonald’s Canada is starting the 50th anniversary of the Big Mac by bringing back a popular version of the sandwich: The Big Mac Bacon.

McDonald’s Canada celebrates the return of Big Mac Bacon for a limited time with street-style inspired “teaser” ads across the country, kicking off a year-long celebration of the Big Mac’s 50th anniversary.

“We took inspiration from how a fashion company might launch an exclusive collection by revealing the promotion as a limited-edition collaboration, through a series of billboards and ads until we finally revealed the Big Mac, treating it like the cultural icon it is,” said Antoinette Benoit, chief marketing officer, McDonald’s Canada.

Michael “Jim” Delligatti, a Uniontown, Pennsylvania, McDonald’s franchisee invented the Big Mac. He created the burger, known for its advertising jingle, “Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun,” for his own restaurants because he wanted to offer customers a “bigger burger.”

In 1968 the Big Mac made its debut in the United States and Canada and McDonald’s never looked back.

“Over the course of its 50-year history, the Big Mac has become a culinary icon and the recipe has remained unchanged since its introduction. That’s pretty remarkable,” said Jeff Anderson, McDonald’s Canada Chef.
