KANSAS CITY — Layered profile flavors like sweet, spicy and savory are trending in new menu items.

 All three flavors combine in Bruegger’s Bagels new sandwiches featuring the chain’s new sriracha honey cream cheese, made with sriracha hot chili sauce and sweet clover honey.

 The new Sriracha Honey Sunrise Breakfast Sandwich features a seasoned cracked egg, peppered bacon, cheddar cheese and sriracha honey cream cheese on a toasted everything bagel, while the Sweet Heat Turkey Sandwich features roasted turkey, cheddar cheese, red and green bell peppers, sriracha sauce and sriracha honey cream cheese on butter-toasted marbled rye bread.

 "Our winter menu features complex, layered-on flavors that bring together sweet, spicy and savory to warm our guests when it's cold outside," said Judy Kadylak, vice president of marketing for Bruegger’s Bagels. "It's the season for comfort foods, rich flavors and a little heat, which Bruegger's Bagels delivers with its new offerings and returning favorites."

 Sweet, spicy and savory meet again in Fresh & Co’s new Beecher’s Cheesy Mac & Cheese. The pasta dish features macaroni in a sauce of Beecher’s Flagship Cheddar & Cheese Curds with chunks of bacon tossed in a spicy and sweet maple syrup.

 The flavor trio also appears in MOD Pizza’s new pie – The Phoenix. The pizza features a white sauce base, savory roasted button mushrooms, spicy peppered arugula, mild Italian sausage, asiago cheese, roasted red bell peppers and rosemary all topped with a drizzle of sweet balsamic fig glaze.

 Sweet and savory combine in Au Bon Pain’s new Rise & Shine Roll. The chain describes it as a “warm, slightly sweet and savory pastry filled with bacon, egg, herbs and cheddar cheese.”
