OAK BROOK, Ill. – McDonald’s Corp. has collaborated with a high-fashion designer as part of the quick-service chain’s value menu promotion.

Anna Sui, an internationally renowned fashion designer, created a series of limited-edition lucky red envelopes to mark the 2018 Lunar Year. Envelopes will be given away on Jan. 23 at Japantown Peace Plaza in San Francisco, where McDonald’s plans to unveil a $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu-inspired arcade game that incorporates Sui’s designs. Participating players will receive a set of the special Year of the Dog red envelopes while supplies last. Sui’s design features “value-themed well wishes” along with original artwork of popular Asian dog breeds such as a Pug and Shiba Inu, according to McDonald’s.

Red envelopes traditionally are filled with money and given out as gifts. Sui created the envelopes which symbolize family, prosperity and good fortune. The 2018 Lunar Year is the year of the dog.

McDonald’s latest value menu features items at three price points; $1 menu items include Sausage Burrito, McChicken, Cheeseburger, any size soft drink; $2 menu items feature Sausage McGriddles, two-piece Buttermilk Crispy Tenders, Bacon McDouble, small McCafé beverage; and $3 menu items include Sausage McMuffin with Egg, new Classic Chicken Sandwich, Triple Cheeseburger and Happy Meal.

The promotion follows a similar program McDonald’s UK launched in August 2017 featuring Julien Macdonald, who created an elaborate design for McDonald’s Signature Collection burger boxes.
