PERRY, Iowa – Four workers at Tyson Food Inc.’s pork processing plant were treated for burns Dec. 4, according to a local news report. Two of the unnamed employees were air lifted by separate helicopters to hospitals in Iowa City and were reportedly in critical condition with burns to their faces and torsos. The other two victims were treated by health officials at the plant.

The report stated there was not a fire reported at the plant and that an investigation into the incident is underway. Approximately 1,100 people work at the 54,000-sq.-ft. facility, where operations include slaughtering and pork processing.

A request for more information from Tyson was made by MEAT+POULTRY early on Jan. 2 and any details provided by the company will be part of follow-up coverage.
