The chicken processor plans to continue paying employees.
“Authorities are still in the process of determining the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage at the House of Raeford Mocksville plant,” the company said in a statement. “At this point, the company does not know when the plant will re-open.”
No injuries were reported at the time of the fire. Thirty people were working in the plant. The plant will remain closed until further notice and employees should not return to the plant, but will be compensated their normal wages.
According to local news reports on Dec. 14, a hazmat team was deployed to clean up a chemical leak at the plant.
