MOCKSVILLE, N.C. – A fire was reported at a House of Raeford chicken processing plant in Mocksville, North Carolina, in the early morning on Dec. 14. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.

According to local news reports, a hazmat team was also deployed to deal with a chemical leak at the plant while fighting the fire. At the time of the fire, 30 people were working in the plant.

“Early this morning a fire broke out in our Mocksville, North Carolina, plant. Within minutes, first responders were on the scene. Thanks to their good work and the work of our plant team, the fire is out, no one was harmed and the site is secure,” House of Raeford said in the statement. “Local authorities remain on the scene to monitor it and assist our plant management with their investigation to determine the cause and extent of the damage.”

House of Raeford also reported that the plant will remain closed until further notice and employees should not return to the plant, but will be compensated their normal wages. The company said it does not expect major supply disruptions to its customers.
