The pork company will reportedly continue its partnership with Richard Petty Motorsports.
 
SMITHFIELD, Va. – Smithfield Foods has resolved its relationship with Richard Petty Motorsports after several weeks of controversy. The pork processor agreed to a settlement on Oct. 31 in which it will continue its sponsorship of Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM). Thepreviously announced sponsorshipagreement with Stewart-Haas Racing has not been revealed with complete details. 


According to a report inSports Business Daily, RPM officials threatened legal action over some clauses in the Smithfield sponsorship contract. 

Smithfield responded to an inquiry about the relationship with the following statement. 

“We’re pleased that there has been a resolution to this misunderstanding,” the company statement said. “Smithfield has enjoyed its six-year relationship with RPM and like any NASCAR supporter, we want to continue to see the No. 43 car (Aric Almirola) on the track for years to come. Richard is truly a legend in NASCAR – a sport and community of fans that we love and are proud to continue to support in 2018.”
