Production at the new plant began on Sept. 5 as operators ramp up operations toward its 10,000 head-per-day capacity, where approximately 1,100 employees will work.
Mark Porter, who assumed the position of COO of the plant in early 2016, said he was pleased with the initial productivity at the facility and the ability to make a donation to provide relief to those in need is well timed.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our workforce and their commitment to producing high-quality, wholesome pork,” Porter said. “The product quality looks great. We’re on our planned schedule after the first week and grateful that some of the product we produced this first week can be donated to help Operation BBQ Relief serve hot, delicious meals to those dealing with the aftermath from the recent natural disasters.”
The company’s donation to Operation BBQ included its fresh PrairieFresh Premium Pork products, both from the new plant in addition to two additional trailer-loads of pork sent the past two weeks from the Triumph Foods plant in St. Joseph, Missouri and Seaboard’s processing plant in Guymon, Oklahoma.
Operation BBQ Relief recently deployed scores of registered volunteers from barbecue teams to cook hot food for 11 days in Texas, where they prepared nearly 372,000 meals for residents and other relief workers.
