The Barbecue Hall of Fame ceremony for "Famous Dave" Snderson will take place at the American Royal on Labor Day Weekend.

MINNEAPOLIS – Famous Dave’s of America announced on Aug. 21 that its founder “Famous Dave” Anderson will be a 2017 inductee into the American Royal Association Barbecue Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held at the 2017 American Royal World Series of Barbecue contest at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, over Labor Day Weekend.

Three individuals are inducted each year to the Barbecue Hall of Fame. Anderson will be honored along with Jeff Stehney and Melissa Cookston at the 2017 ceremony.

“Barbecue has been my life’s passion, and there’s nothing more that I love than making people happy with the foods I grew up with, and that is what makes me happy in life,” Anderson said. “Being told that my peers had nominated me to be inducted into the Barbecue Hall of Fame at the American Royal is humbling, amazing, and incredible for a kid that grew up with nothing more than a dream and a willingness to work hard… proving nothing is impossible.”

In 1994, Anderson opened The Original Famous Dave’s located on the coast of Big Round Lake in Hayward, Wisconsin. Anderson added his second restaurant in Minneapolis and recognized by the National Restaurant Association as “One of the Hottest Concepts in America Award” in 2002 and most recently “America’s Best Loved BBQ Joint” by Nation’s Restaurant News in 2013. Famous Dave’s has grown to about 170 locations around the US.

"This honor certainly comes as no surprise having worked with Dave for the past twenty years,” said Mike Lister, Famous Dave’s CEO and COO. "He has brought great barbecue to millions and is an incredible mentor and visionary in our community. Dave is a barbecue ambassador who truly lives and breathes the values he preaches every day."
