Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin-based Wyttenbach Meats took top honors and top dollars at the Wisconsin State Fair. The company won “Best of Show” and Grand Champion honors for cottage bacon, in addition to grand Champion honors for the company’s traditional bacon.

The top 20 meat items across several categories, such as bone-in ham, summer sausage and snack sausage, among others, were auctioned off as part of the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Meat Products Auction. Wyttenbach’s bacon sold to Pagel’s Ponderosa, Ron’s Wisconsin and Cheese and John T. Pagel for $16,000. The bacon later was donated back and resold to Wisconsin Souvenir Milkcaps for $6,000. The auction benefits the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation.

People’s Meat Market, Stevens Point, Wisconsin, took second place in the competition, while Karl’s Country Market in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, came in third place. Cal Hermann of Eden, Wisconsin, took fourth place for pit-smoked bacon.
