Tyson spokesman Worth Sparkman said the plant was not in operation at the time, but was staffed by approximately 125 Tyson employees and sanitation contractors.
“Two people have been transported to an area hospital for observation,” Sparkman said in a statement. “We’re grateful for the quick response and assistance of the local fire department. Many of our team members have arrived to work first shift and are waiting outside. Once authorities give an all-clear, we plan to resume normal operations today.”
The Tyson Fresh Meats plant produces case-ready beef and pork products for retail customers. The plant employs about 1,600 workers.
