LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Papa John’s International Inc. has announced the opening of a restaurant in Casablanca, Morocco. Morocco is the third country in Africa, after Egypt and Tunisia, to have a Papa John’s franchise. The chain is now in 45 countries globally. In 2016, Papa John’s opened restaurants in six new countries — Iraq, Israel, France, Spain, The Netherlands and Tunisia.

Moroccan-based Planet Pizza Inc. has the exclusive development rights for the Papa John’s brand in the country and plans to build 20 stores in Morocco.

“The Papa John’s brand continues to grow and we are pleased to extend our growth with Mr. Bensouda and Planet Pizza,” said Tim O’Hern, senior vice president and chief development officer of Papa John’s International, Inc. “We now have over 5,000 restaurants in 45 countries and territories, including over 1,600 internationally, and we are very proud to add Morocco as our newest country.”

The Morocco development is part of Papa John’s strategy of continued global expansion.

“We are honored to be a part of bringing Papa John’s to Morocco. There is a strong demand here for high-quality pizzas and friendly service,” said Bensouda, CEO of Planet Pizza.
