WASHINGTON – The North American Meat Institute (NAMI) now offers an app with a guide to beef, pork, lamb and veal cuts found in the supermarket that includes recipes and cooking tips. NAMI developed the help intending to aid its goal of helping millennials become informed and confident consumers of meat and poultry.

MyMeatUp answers questions concerning selection and preparation of meat and poultry products with a unique cuts of meat feature that visually displays the most common retail cuts of beef, pork, veal and lamb. Images, explanations, recipes and cooking methods of common cuts can be viewed by selecting a specific part of an animal. Users will also find information on unfamiliar cuts by using the app’s search function.

The app also provides a searchable glossary of frequently used terms on product labels including natural, grass-fed, antibiotic-free and no hormones added, among others. It also addresses questions about key industry topics and allows users to navigate the choices offered in the meat case to ensure matching taste and nutrition preferences. Food safety and preparation tips, along with a video guide to using a meat thermometer are available as well.
