KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Tinseltown is taking a stab at telling the story of Ray Kroc, founder of the McDonald’s fast-food empire. But the recently released movie poster may indicate the origin story of McDonald’s may be less than flattering. The poster features the tagline “He took someone else’s idea and America ate it up.”

Kroc got the idea for the fast-food chain from two brothers, Dick and Mac McDonald, according to the company’s website. He was impressed by the brothers’ emphasis on quality, quick service and a limited menu. Kroc sold to the brothers his idea for creating a chain of restaurants in the United States, and in 1955 he created the McDonald’s System Inc., a predecessor to McDonald’s Corp. Kroc went on the acquire exclusive rights to the McDonald’s name.

“The Founder” stars Michael Keaton as Kroc and opened in limited theaters on Dec. 7. It's scheduled for nationwide release on Jan. 20, 2017.
