WASHINGTON – The US Dept. of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced two recalls for meat products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials. Tyson Foods’ New Holland, Pennsylvania, facility is recalling 1,148 lbs. of frozen popcorn chicken and Michigan Turkey Producers’ Grand Rapids, Michigan, plant is recalling 54,011 lbs. of turkey breast products.

The problem in both plants was discovered when a customer called in to complain.

The Tyson products subject to the recall are frozen, ready-to-eat, whole grain popcorn chicken items that were produced on Aug. 10. The items with the USDA establishment number “P-1325” were shipped to a wholesale distributor in Illinois and further distributed to schools and foodservice establishments in Missouri and Illinois.

  • 35 cases of 32.79-lb. “TYSON FULLY COOKED, WHOLE GRAIN GOLDEN CRISPY POPCORN CHICKEN, CHICKEN PATTIE FRITTERS” with a case code of “70368/928” on the upper right hand side of the label.

There have been no confirmed reports of injury or illness due to consumption of the products.

The Michigan Turkey Producers’ products subject to the recall are the oven roasted turkey breast items (logs and sliced) that were produced on Aug. 29 and Sept. 16, 2016. Specifically, the following products are subject to recall:

  • 12-lb. packages containing “MESON SANDWICHES, OVEN ROASTED SLICED TURKEY BREAST” with a use or freeze by date of 11/27/16, and a case code of “48598” on the left side of the label
  • 22-lb. logs containing “OVEN ROASTED TURKEY BREAST WITH BROTH,” with a use or freeze by date of 11/27/16, and a case code of “48576” on the left side of the label
  • 22-lb. logs containing “OVEN ROASTED TURKEY BREAST WITH BROTH,” with a use or freeze by date of 12/15/16, and a case code of “48576” on the left side of the label

The products bear USDA establishment number “P-20935A”. The items were shipped to a distribution center in Florida and foodservice establishments in Florida and Puerto Rico.

There have been no confirmed reports of injury or illness due to consumption of the products.
