WASHINGTON – Turkey eggs in incubators were up 7 percent compared to Aug. 1, 2015, the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) of the US Dept. of Agriculture reported in its Turkey Hatchery report. Total eggs in incubators on Aug. 1 were 28.9 million, which was 3 percent lower compared with the July 1, 2016, total of 29.9 million eggs.
Poults hatched in July 2016 climbed 8 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Poults hatched in July totaled 24.8 million, which was a decline of 1 percent from the June 2016 total of 25.0 million poults, the agency said.
Net poults placed in July climbed 7 percent compared with a year ago and were slightly higher than the June 2016 total of 24.3 million, NASS reported.
